just a day JUST AN ORDINARY DAY - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Who goes out in below 50 degrees weather for ice cream? Rylee fucking Bee Gordon, that's who. In the middle of coming up for a design for a royally purple dress with more sharp angles than a Geometry textbook, our girl here got a craving for ice cream. Despite the fact that her fridge was stocked up to the brim with Ben & Jerry's of all flavors and varieties, she was craving something different. Something...oddly simple.
She just wanted vanilla ice cream with some hot caramel sauce. That wasn't too much to ask for, now was it? So Rylee shook off her t-shirt and shorts (which were only for wearing in her apartment when no one was else was around, mind you) and climbed into a typical Rylee outfit. Black dress, fishnets, killer boots, lace gloves--the works. She put on a little eyeliner and eyeshadow to make her signature smoky eyes and left her straightened platinum blond hair down, her square bangs practically in her eyes. She threw on a leather jacket, grabbed her keys, stuffed them in her pocket and was out the door and on her way to an ice cream extravaganza.
Now, there was a small corner store about two blocks away from Rylee's apartment. She went there often and the people there kind of knew her. It was cold enough outside without her wanting to get ice cream; she didn't really want to go that far for the cold treat in this weather, now did she? But as Rylee approached the corner store and looked disdainfully at the yellow glow of the cheap lighting streaming out onto the streets from the windows, she knew she wouldn't find what she wanted here. Why settle for a cheap pint of Breyer's French Vanilla and some Smucker's caramel sauce? Why would she heat up the sauce when she could get it fresh?
Rylee frowned; this was quite the predicament. She could just walk into the store and get some ice cream because when it all came down to it, ice cream was ice cream, right? Rylee frowned deeper. "Wrong," she told herself. Rolling her eyes, she walked away from the corner store. She knew the place to get what she wanted and no matter how cold it was outside, she was going there.
To the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. Where the ice cream was not only delicious, but creamy and sweet and always just what you needed and where the toppings were fairly priced and always fresh. It was one of Rylee's favorite places to haunt, no matter what the time...or the season. It was both winter and fairly late at night now though, but the best thing was the shop would still be open.
About fifteen minutes later, she was making her way to the dock/boardwalk that the small shop was on. She took a moment to look at the Brooklyn Bridge, of which there was a perfect view from where she was standing and admired the bright lights that lit up the bridge and the city skyline. There wasn't anything Rylee didn't love about living in NYC. It was gorgeous and gritty; absolutely perfect.
Rylee grinned, her extreme craving for ice cream momentarily forgotten. "Beautiful, isn't it?" she sighed to herself, crazily glad that she standing right there.

FINDERS KEEPERS,the whole thing is a lie. All through the hou- well, apartment, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The beds were empty, the kitchen smelt like pancakes and strawberries and the bathroom was hot and smokey; tell-tales signs that people had not long been in there. The apartment showed signs of life, yet as of the moment there seemed to be no-one around. Not the seventeen year old junior female who owned the place, nor the fourteen month old nephew she took care of. Wouldn't you think that that was a little... odd, if you'd known them? Well, maybe; it was eerily quiet. Well, at least it had been until..
"Peek-a-boo!" Came a female voice, followed by a round of giggles, a laughing scream and then the sounds of little footsteps trying to get away. "I'mma coming to get chuu, Ry-ry." Another round of giggles and light footsteps across the wooden floor. The smaller of the two people started to talk 'baby language', stopping in the middle of the floor, which meant that the elder had to come to such an abrupt halt, so as not to crash into him, that she fell over sideways. Cue a third round of giggles and a small 'oof' as the fourteen month old child jumped on the seventeen year old girl. "Ahh, the monster has caught me!" The girl, Jasey, smiled at her nephew and wrapped her arms around him gently as she got back to her feet and bounced down the hallway back to his bedroom.
Ryan was still in his pjamas, Jasey had managed to take a shower and get dressed into a pair of skinny jeans; baseball t-shirt and 'vampire' jumper, before Ryan had woken up and they'd eaten breakfast. Now that they were both awake and fed, Jasey had wondered if it was a good idea to go out and see what they could do in the middle of winter - she didn't mind playing around with him in the apartment, but they were really limited to what they could and couldn't do; hence the mini 'hide and seek' game, which usually happened when Ryan needed to be dressed anyway. Maybe they could go to dumbo, or something.
Jasey placed Ryan down on his changing table so that she could change his diaper before getting him dressed. It was a little difficult because he didn't like keeping still and kept squealing everytime she tried to move his legs to get his diaper off. "Ryaaaaan, love, you need to be changed, please keep still." Despite the fact that he didn't listen to her, Jasey had to giggle, but eventually she managed to change his diaper - now for his clothes. "Ready, pal?" She asked him as she sat him up and held on to him with one arm as she grabbed the clothes she'd put out for him earlier, whilst he was still sleeping.
It wasn't nearly as difficult to get him dressed as it was to change his diaper. So, it wasn't too long before Ryan was sitting on his changing table in a pair of jeans, socks, his baby shoes, a t-shirt that said 'hug me', and a grey fleece cardigan. It was then that Jasey decided it would be a good idea to go out. So, she lifted him from the changing table and placed him on the floor whilst she got out his coat, hat and mittens. Trying to get mittens on a squirmy fourteen month old child was a hell of a lot of fun. But eventually Ryan was ready, and he had his cuddly elephant toy that he never went anywhere without.
Scooping him up again, Jasey bounced down the hallway to where his stroller was. The child wasn't exactly heavy, but he could be deadweight if he fell asleep in her arms; so the stroller was necessary, and besides; it had his changing bag and everything on it already. The only thing she needed to grab for him, really quickly, was two milk bottles and his blankets. Which she grabbed before putting him in the stroller and strapping him in with the blanket around him, whilst she sat on the floor to get her diesel shoes-that-looked-like-Converse on.
"We're going on an adventure, Ry-ryyy." Jasey grinned at her nephew and got on her knees to place a soft kiss on his cheek before getting to her feet fully and standing in front of the mirror to sort herself out. Grimacing, she realised that there was no amount of make-up in the world that would cover up the black eye she had recieved not too long ago. Not even her hair would cover it up. Shaking her head, the seventeen year old just ignored it and started shoving everything into her pockets - cell phone, keys, iPod. Yep, everything she needed, or didn't need, until finally she was ready and pushed Ryan's stroller out of the apartment, locking the door behind her.
A fine breeze wrapped itself around Jasey as she pushed the stroller down the path, headed no-where in particular. "Alright Ryan, lets just go where our feet - well, my feet, take us and hope that it's a good place." And that's just what they did. Walking down the pathway as Ryan 'sang' a song. Not too long after they'd left the apartment, Jasey hit Dumbo.
No, not the Disney elephant.
Shivering a little she pushed Ryan's stroller around Dumbo, listening to him as he continued to 'sing'. A little while later he stopped 'singing' and instead decided to throw his elephant at a blonde female a little way in front of them. "Ryan! Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!." The little boy started to squeal and whine, hands trying to reach out for his toy as he sat up and attempted to escape from the stroller. "Hey, hey little man, calm down; it's here." Moving towards the female, Jasey grabbed the elephant and handed it back to Ryan who ceased with his mini tantrum and chewed on the elephant's trunk.
Jasey turned to the female, ignoring the black eye, still, and the fact that the small breeze had messed up her hair. "I'm sorry about that, he doesn't usually, uh... throw his toys." There was a fair amount of stuttering coming from Jasey as she fixed Ryan's hat before standing and pulling her jumper down.

nobody's looking now I THROW MY TOYS AROUND - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Rylee had been standing all by herself near the entrance of the beloved (and somewhat infamous) Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, sighing and dreaming about the wonder of a city that was her hometown, when suddenly--
Rylee frowned a little as she felt something soft and plush hit the back of her head. It obviously didn't hurt, but it had interrupted her thoughts and it felt as if someone had purposefully thrown it at her. Now exactly why would that have happened? Rylee was just turning around to see where the object had come from (and well, what it was) when she heard a female's voice. "Ryan! Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!" a mostly dark-haired girl cried out to a small, squealing boy in his stroller.
Rylee's face softened immediately at the sight of the young child. She looked down at the ground behind her and immediately spotted the object that and she even chuckled a little at the idea of this small boy throwing his elephant at the back of her head. She could only imagine what was going through his mind at the time to compel him to do so, especially since he seemed so upset now that he was without his toy. Before Rylee could retrieve the plush toy, the dark-haired girl moved toward it, gently telling the small boy to calm down. Even though the gesture made Rylee smile, she had to wonder how old this pretty young looking girl was. There was no way she was out of school age--and yet here she was pushing a baby in a stroller nearing the late evening.
Once the small boy got his toy back, he started chewing on the elephant's trunk, making Rylee giggle. She really did love small children. There was something so unguarded and innocent about them that was just spectacular about children--and life, really. A child's innocence was one of the most inspiring things in life. Raising a lace-gloved arm, Rylee gave the small boy a finger wave and a bright smile. He noticed her and stared back at her with his big eyes, the elephant still in his mouth. It made Rylee giggle again; he was positively adorable.
Then the dark-haired girl came toward Rylee. "I'm sorry about that, he doesn't usually, uh... throw his toys," she said with a stutter, looking slightly unkempt with a noticeable black eye and windswept hair. Rylee unconsciously narrowed her eyes a little bit, but she held her tongue and didn't ask any questions; that would just be plain intrusive. Still, this young girl with a black eye and a child? It was curious, to say the least.
She brushed off the girl's statement, shaking her head and snapping her wrist. "Please, it's fine," Rylee insisted with a laugh. "He probably knew I was gonna stand there all day if someone didn't make me move. Smart boy," Rylee laughed, giving the kid another look. "It's just that I love it here so much, you know? We've got the best view of the bridges from here," Rylee added, looking at the girl now.
That statement was debatable, Rylee knew. There were many places in both Brooklyn and Manhattan where one could see the two bridges and it seemed like all those views were the best one. But now Rylee's mind was off the bridges and on this adorable child now. Well, him and ice cream--the whole reason she was even outside.
She turned back to the girl and asked her, "Does the little guy want ice cream? 'Cause I'd totally buy him some. I was gonna get some myself, but like I said, I got so caught up in the view..." Rylee trailed off and then laughed again; she supposed it sounded funny that she would be so mesmerized by the city but it was her dreamland. Escaping from Hanover was the best thing that ever happened to her. "My treat, 'cause he's so darn cute!" Rylee giggled, waving at the small boy again. She sometimes wished she had children, but that would come later in life. For right now, she just enjoyed being in their presence and babysitting Gracie, her old English teacher's daughter.
"Oh. I'm Rylee, by the way," she said, totally forgetting about introductions. She smiled brightly and stuck her hand out for the girl to shake. "Nice to meet ya!"
