dance, dance, dance WORDS CAN NEVER MAKE UP FOR WHAT YOU DO. » Spencer huffed as she entered Eisley's gymnasium. Tonight was definitely already...different. She glanced up at Bradley White--her date--who stood beside her, looking as dapper as ever and she raised an eyebrow as if questioning whether or not they should enter further. There didn't seem to be many people in the gym yet--a couple of teachers here and there and one guy--but Spencer didn't much care for grand entrances. It was kind of comforting to be the first couple there. She kind of thought she'd overdressed for the occasion--the school had said "semi-formal" and here Spencer was dressed like she was auditioning for an Audrey Hepburn role--but if they were the first people there, maybe that meant Spencer was going to set the bar.
» And she looked good, too. Even if she wasn't the biggest fan of school functions, they were still fun to dress up for and Spencer technically had a date to look nice for--how odd it was to say that--so she'd gotten dressed up. She'd curled her already wavy hair, done some smoldering eye makeup perfectly and even painted her nails to match her bright red dress and heels. It certainly was a change from the worn, grayish appearance she'd been modeling for the past week or so.
» Pouting at the nearly empty gym, Spencer linked arms with Brad and wordlessly pulled them into the large room, now redecorated with Eisley colors--blues and whites--balloons everywhere, a large dance floor and the DJ set up near the back. A teacher was currently working on the refreshments stands, but it looked like there was going to be some good food; hors d'oeuvres even.
» "Are those pigs in a blanket?" Spencer wondered aloud as the teacher placed a plate of the mini-hot dogs on the long table. She laughed before turning to Brad with a smile. "Maybe we shouldn't have left so early?"
» The thing was, it was about forty-five minutes past the time the dance was scheduled to start. Spencer, used to being fashionably late for parties, had figured that'd be more than enough time to just saunter in and have things underway already. It seemed she had been wrong. At least it wasn't quiet; the DJ was playing some new song Spencer thought she might've heard on the radio once or twice, but Spencer didn't quite feel like dancing yet. One, that was kind of lame...at least, it was this early on. Two, she'd kind of gorged on the edible flowers that Brad had given her. Imagine her pleasant surprise to see him presenting her a bouquet of...fruit.
» Spencer had thanked him immensely and immediately started in on the flower-shaped pineapple pieces (she later moved on to the grapes and also ate most of the chocolate covered strawberries). She ate about half of the bouquet right in front of Brad before realizing how unladylike she must've looked (to be fair, she did take off her long black gloves before digging in) and promptly stopped, flushing in embarrassment. Normally, Spencer wouldn't care about little things like that, but tonight Brad was her "date," not even just her "escort". Did that mean she had to impress him a little? As much as she would've liked not to care...
» It went without saying that Spencer wasn't up on date etiquette. In fact, if this was, in fact, a date, it would count as her first official one. Actually, it would count as her first one period. Spencer didn't really do dates and the guys she went after (and the ones who went after her) tended not to do dates either. It was more that wham, bam, thank you ma'am kind of mentality. Quickies, fast fun times. That kind of thing. But Brad was a proper gentleman and to be honest, Spencer didn't know how to deal with that. Her lack of proper behavior was kind of why she'd originally planned on just crashing the Sadie Hawkins alone. It would've gone hand in hand with the new independent woman attitude she was showing off. She'd even briefly considered not going at all, but in the end had figured that all of her friends would be going and she didn't want to be that lonely one left behind.
» Now in the past week, she and Devin had started talking again and after basically three months of silence or tension (sometimes bullying and arguing), it was a pleasant change. Spencer still felt the need for reconciliation though (for Devin to really know she forgave him and that she too was sorry), so she'd thought about asking him to the Sadie Hawkins--but Valentina Russo had beat her to the punch. Not that she'd much minded--Val's move had led her to ask Brad, someone she thought would've already been asked but who was still very much available for the night.
» That of course led to where she and Brad were right now, in the school gymnasium, wearing matching outfits and looking great. Spencer had even decided to stay sober for another night! Well...not entirely so. She'd had two shots of rum before Brad came by her (temporary) dorm to pick her up, but that barely showed. It was just to loosen her up a bit; the usual. She wasn't going to get smashed or stupid; she didn't want to ruin anybody's night and it was a kind of personal test, something she definitely needed for this month.
» "So, uh, thanks for coming with me tonight...again," Spencer laughed, turning to Brad. It had to be the fourth time (or something) she'd said that to him tonight, but she meant it every time. Lord knows she wasn't doing so well and he could've rightly refused to come with her (which she wouldn't have been surprised if he'd chosen to do), so Brad was really doing a good one by her. The more she thought of it, the more Spencer could see he really was a great guy. "Are we gonna set this party off right?"

What more could we ask for
we're here and now are you having a good time? So nobody had thought to ask Bradley White to the Sadie Hawkins dance until Miss Kelly had her first choice nabbed by someone else. Brad had a lot of good qualities; but he wasn’t modest nor was he lacking in pride. When Spencer asked him; he had been surprised first and then absolutely relieved and then excited. Spencer wasn’t like the normal; preppy; popular mainstream girls that usually showed interest in him and they had fun in two totally different ways. He was curious to see what would happen with the night and had vowed to himself that he’d show Miss Kelley how to get down without the alcohol; sex and all around. But; still; the fact remained that he had been her second choice and he had closer friends; friends that were even rumored to have crushes on him and friends that he had actually fooled around with that hadn’t even brought the dance up to him. Of course; he went around and asked these friends and basically got the same answer of they thought he had already been asked along with some other lame brain excuse. And he had told each one of them; in his own Bradley humorous way; that they could all stuff it and they’d be watching him and Spencer have the time of their lives at this dance.
Between him and Spencer; he was the veteran at having actual dates; so he did his best to assist her without being too overwhelming. He had her get her dress first so that he could correctly get his outfit together without them matching to the point of being overwhelming. Also; he wanted her and her dress to be the star of the night; there was no need for him to get flashy and steal the moment from her. And any good date knows that it should be all about the lady and making sure the night was special for her. On top of that; Brad had it set in his mind that he wanted her first real date to be amazing. Why? That way it’d set the bar and she wouldn’t settle for the lame-o’s and losers she had dated any more. Spencer wasn’t a bad person; she just had a knack for acting before the thought. And he figured; maybe if she was happier with herself and her life; maybe she’d stop being so dang self destructive.
The day of the dance rolled around and he decided to get her something. Flowers; for some reason; didn’t feel right. Not that she didn’t deserve them; but he wanted something better; something fun; unique and not cliché. Instead; he got her an edible arrangement. It looked like a bouquet; but it was made up of fruit. He opted for the one that included pineapple and chocolate dipped strawberries as well as the grapes; melon balls and plain strawberries-- and it was a good thing he did because that’s what she devoured first. As he stood there and watched her dig in he almost told her that she’d usually want to wait until after the date to do that; so they wouldn’t be late. However; she looked so effin cute in her classy dress with her hair and make-up on tearing into some pineapple like she might never get any again. Therefore he stood there; hands deep in his pockets watching her for awhile; chuckling here and there. When she was ready; he offered her his arm and off they went.
. . . and arrived at a nearly empty gym. The sight actually caused Brad to laugh; hard. Looking at the decorated gym and the faculty sort of standing around it made him think of the saying “All dressed up; with nowhere to go”. Only the gym was all dressed up-- and no one to show up. Thankfully; being the part of the few there didn’t make him or his date embarrassed and he sort of shrugged when she mentioned they had come early. He looked down at her and smiled softly; “They were gonna come; ma; but they saw how hot you looked in that red dress. Well; at least they knew better than to show up and try to compete!” He winked at her and checked the place out again. They both knew people were going to show up. Matty; who had been howling about it ever since he agreed to go; Val and her date [what a surprise to everyone; right? Devin!]; Hayden and Ara; Ara’s twin who had flew back from overseas to be with her during her pregnancy was back and Penny was his date and; to a lot of peoples extreme relief and happiness; Tilly LeBeaux had asked K.P. Caine to be her date to the Sadie Hawkins dance. Now you couldn’t get away from the two of them making out in the hallways between class.
Brad had only thought for a brief moment how his friends would take to him and Spencer going to the dance together and had quickly come to a conclusion. If they were done being on Elijah’s case for all that Ara/Elijah drama; then they can get off of Spencer’s case; too. Was he fully prepared to back her up and tell his people to power down if it got to that? Hell yeah. But Brad doubted it would; because their reactions; ranging from shocked to concerned; were all more mild than most would expect. That caused him to believe that he and his date had nothing to worry about but each other and having a good time. Which was exactly how it should be.
He shook his head when she thanked him again for accepting her invitation; “No worries; boo. If it wasn’t for you my butt would be in my dorm playin’ on the Wii wonderin’ how the hell all my people forgot about me!” Brad draped an arm loosely around her waist and headed over to the very swanky pig-in-a-blanket display. “C’mon; now! Our parents pay far too much for y’all to serve us up some backwoods prom shizz!” Well; his parents didn’t pay for anything; his basketball scholarship did. But that was too much information to drop just for a joke. Joke or not; he still lifted one of the appetizers to his mouth and took a bite. “For real; though? On a serious level? This is some hella bomb stuffs; mama.” He held the other half to her lips for her to take in and looked up at the door at the few other wandering in probably thinking the same damn thing they had thought.
